Chevonne and De'Borah face off in the knockout rounds on "The Voice."
And the knockout rounds are already over, folks! On Monday night, fans of "The Voice" watched as coaches Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green eliminated half of their teams, whittling them down to just five contestants who will compete in the live rounds. Tuesday night, it was Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton's turn to make the tough decisions.
So which artists made it through to the live shows?
See which contestants Adam and Cee Lo sent through to the live shows during Monday night's episode
Team Christina
The first two to face off were Devyn DeLoera and Laura Vivas. "I want to see who can deliver a powerful performance under pressure," Christina says of the pairing. Devyn decides to take on a doozy of a song: Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing," while Laura takes on Marc Anthony's "I Need to Know" and shows versatility by singing half the song in Spanish. In the end, Devyn's ambitious song choice won Christina over and she was sent through to the live shows.
Next, Christina pairs Adriana Louise against 16-year-old Celica Westbrook because they are "both powerful pop singers." Adrianna chooses "Already Gone" by Kelly Clarkson to show off her "emotion" and Celica goes with Justin Bieber 's "Never Say Never" because he's in her age range. Christina sends Adrianna through and tells a heartbroken Celica, "Don't hate me!"
Because of their "two different styles," Alessandra Guercio and Dez Duron are pitted against each other. Alessandra takes on Rihanna's "Take a Bow," while the former football star Dez decides to tackle Lionel Richie's "Stuck on You." Christina praises Alessandra's raspy tone and Dez's runs, but chooses to keep Dez on her team. (The ladies in the crowd seem very happy with her choice.)
Christina decides to go for a "fun" matchup by pairing Chevonne and De'Borah together. Chevonne chooses "Dancing With Myself" to celebrate how far she's come in the competition, while De'Borah picks "You Found Me" by The Fray because she can really relate to the song. Christina sends De'Borah through to the live shows. "I love Christina so much. I'm grateful that she chose me," De'Borah says. Chevonne ignores Cee Lo's numerous "byes"
Aquile and Sylvia Yacoub are Christina's final two performers of the knockout rounds, with Aquile choosing "Grenade" and Sylvia decides to choose one of her coach's most popular tunes "Fighter." "That's hard to do," Christina tells her during rehearsals. In the end, Christina keeps Sylvia, which completes her team for the live rounds. "I've got five amazing people on my team and they're going to rock," Christina says.
(Sidenote: How hilarious was Adam's Randy Jackson joke during Cee Lo's critique of their performances? "Who's Randy Jackson?" Blake asks and Cee Lo jokes that he's "Michael Jackson's brother." LOL.)
How Sandy is messing with TV
Team Blake
For his first battle of the night, Blake pairs Gracia Harrison and Liz Davis as they are both country singers and he doesn't want to "split the vote" once the show gets to the live rounds. Gracia chooses "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith to show her versatility and Liz picks one of Blake's wife Miranda Lambert's biggest hits "Gunpowder and Lead" because it's a lot like her personality (aka "edgy"). Blake was "confused" by Gracia's song choice, so he goes with Liz as the winner.
Rudy Parris and Terry McDermott are the next two contestants to face off as they are both rockers and Blake is looking for a well-rounded team filled with artists from different genres. Rudy goes with Chris Brown's "Forever," which Blake cautions might be too young for the grandfather. Terry goes with a song he covered with his band a lot: "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney. All three coaches prefer Terry and Blake agrees, saying the Scottish rocker knows exactly the artist he wants to be and sends him through to the live shows.
"X Factor's" David Correy finds his birth mother
The country crooner pairs former Team Adam member Colin McLoughlin with 16-year-old Michaela Paige because "they both have great command of their tone and pitch." Colin picks "Breakeven" by The Script, while Michaela channels her inner-rocker with "Love Is a Battlefield." "It comes down to what I'm into the most," Blake says after their performances before going with Michaela. "I love this little girl so much," he explains.
Julio Cesar Castillo, who sings Bieber's "Somebody to Love," is pitted against 15-year-old MarissaAnn, who decides to tackle "Lady Marmalade," which features her former coach Christina. While both performances left us underwhelmed, Blake praises both singers, but goes with Julio as the winner.
In the final knockout battle, Suzanna Choffel takes on former Hey Monday lead singer Cassadee Pope. Cassadee decides to sing "Payphone," one of Adam's band Maroon 5's songs, because it's the perfect range for her and she loves the song. Suzanna takes a risk and picks Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved." Adam is impressed by Cassadee's take on his hit song and Blake is also impressed, citing Suzanne's "song choice" as her undoing. "I really think we have the most diverse team," Blake says. "I really think I could win this thing again, I do."

Regrettably, that reality has led to a lot of fly-by-evening search engine optimization businesses who are promising the moon and the stars for search engine ranking final results that they can not achievable?
With virtually 85% of World wide web customers accessing search engines to discover items and services, according to a leading Arizona Seo Organization, web internet sites that do not have a organic search engine optimization plan that gets them a Best ten search engine ranking are missing out on a lot of business.
However, that fact has led to a lot of fly-by-evening search engine optimization firms who are promising the moon and the stars for search engine ranking outcomes that they can?t attainable obtain.

These on-line advertising and marketing rip-off artists offer so-called search engine optimization ?packages? that are based upon faulty logic and dishonest practices that typically end up acquiring their client?s sites banned for life by any respectable search engine.
It is feasible to obtain a Best 10 search engine ranking, but never ?overnight?, making use of what is identified as organic search engine optimization.
Online advertising firms that offer natural search engine optimization services make use of a mixture of verified, legal strategies that aid a net internet site rank high in the organic or ?organic? search engine listings that are generated by search engine spiders that ?crawl? a internet web site looking for keyword-rich content material and appropriately formatted pages.
When organic search engine optimization rules are followed, the net site gradually increases its rank and appears greater in the Search Engine Outcome Pages (SERPs). The finish outcome is usually a Top rated ten ranking that the web site received naturally and with no paying thousands of dollars to buy crucial word placement.
Natural search engine optimization services are the only Search engine marketing alternatives that will not get a net web site banned for making use of dirty tricks, and they are the only Search engine marketing services you ought to contemplate if you want to remain in the sales game for the long run.

Of course, search engine optimization is only half the battle. All the targeted traffic in the world will not do you any good if some of it does not convert to sales.
But honestly, the sales conversion procedure is a lot simpler to fine-tune than search engine optimization is unless you know specifically what you happen to be carrying out.
Net internet site owners are cautioned against attempting to execute organic search engine optimization techniques themselves, because all it will take is 1 or two modest errors to cause your web site to fall to the bottom of the listings. And that will cost you more income than you saved by performing search engine optimization yourself.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) ? Superstorm Sandy slammed into the New Jersey coastline with 80 mph winds and hurled a record-breaking 13-foot surge of seawater at New York City on Monday, roaring ashore after washing away part of the Atlantic City boardwalk and putting the presidential campaign on hold.
Just before its center reached land, the storm was stripped of hurricane status, but the distinction was purely technical, based on its shape and internal temperature. It still packed hurricane-force wind, and forecasters were careful to say it remained every bit as dangerous to the 50 million people in its path.
The National Hurricane Center announced at 8 p.m. that Sandy had come ashore about five miles from Atlantic City. The sea surged a record of nearly 13 feet at the Battery, at the foot of Manhattan.
In an attempt to lessen damage from the storm, New York City's main utility cut power to about 6,500 customers in lower Manhattan, which includes Wall Street. Authorities worried that seawater would seep into the subway and cripple it, along with the electrical and communications systems vital to the nation's financial center.
As it closed in, Sandy knocked out power to more than 1.5 million people and smacked the boarded-up big cities of the Northeast corridor ? Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston, with stinging rain and gusts of more than 85 mph.
At least four deaths were blamed on the storm in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New York. Among them were two people killed by falling trees.
As Sandy made its way toward land, it converged with a cold-weather system out of the west that turned into a fearsome superstorm, a monstrous hybrid consisting not only of rain and high wind but of snow. Forecasters warned of 20-foot waves bashing into the Chicago lakefront and up to 3 feet of snow in West Virginia.
Airlines canceled more than 12,000 flights, disrupting the plans of travelers all over the world, and storm damage was projected at $10 billion to $20 billion, meaning it could prove to be one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history.
President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney canceled their campaign appearances at the very height of the race, with just over a week to go before Election Day. The president pledged the government's help and made a direct plea from the White House to those in the storm's path.
"When they tell you to evacuate, you need to evacuate," he said. "Don't delay, don't pause, don't question the instructions that are being given, because this is a powerful storm."
Sandy, which killed 69 people in the Caribbean before making its way up the Atlantic, began to hook left at midday toward the New Jersey coast.
The storm lost its status as hurricane because it no longer had a warm core center nor the convection ? the upward air movement in the eye ? that traditional hurricanes have, but it was still as dangerous as it was when it was considered a hurricane, according to National Hurricane Center spokesman Dennis Feltgen.
Pete Wilson, who owns an antiques shop in Cape May, N.J., at the state's southern tip and directly in Sandy's path, said the water was 6 inches above the bottom edge of the door. He had already taken a truckload of antiques out but was certain he would take a big hit.
"My jewelry cases are going to be toast," he said. "I am not too happy. I am just going to have to wait, and hopefully clean up."
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said people were stranded in Atlantic City, which sits on a barrier island and was mostly under water late Monday. He accused the mayor of allowing them to stay there.
With the hurricane fast approaching, Christie warned it was no longer safe for rescuers, and advised people who didn't evacuate the barrier islands to "hunker down" until morning.
"I hope, I pray, that there won't be any loss of life because of it," he said.
While the hurricane's winds registered as only a Category 1 on a scale of five, it packed "astoundingly low" barometric pressure, giving it terrific energy to push water inland, said Kerry Emanuel, a professor of meteorology at MIT.
"We are looking at the highest storm surges ever recorded" in the Northeast, said Jeff Masters, meteorology director for Weather Underground, a private forecasting service. "The energy of the storm surge is off the charts, basically."
In New York City, authorities worried that salt water would seep through the boarded-up street grates and through the sandbags placed at subway entrances, damaging the electrical connections needed to operate the subway.
Hours before landfall, there was graphic evidence of the storm's power.
A construction crane atop a luxury high-rise in New York City collapsed in the wind and dangled precariously 74 floors above the street. Forecasters said the wind at the top the building may have been close to 95 mph.
Off North Carolina, a replica of the 18th-century sailing ship HMS Bounty that was built for the 1962 Marlon Brando movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" went down in the storm, and 14 crew members were rescued by helicopter from rubber lifeboats bobbing in 18-foot seas. Another crew member was found hours later but was unresponsive. The captain was missing.
At Cape May, water sloshed over the seawall, and it punched through dunes in other seaside communities. Sandy also tore away an old section of Atlantic City's historic boardwalk.
"When I think about how much water is already in the streets, and how much more is going to come with high tide tonight, this is going to be devastating," said Bob McDevitt, president of the main Atlantic City casino workers union. "I think this is going to be a really bad situation tonight."
In Maryland, at least 100 feet of a fishing pier at the beach resort of Ocean City was destroyed, and Gov. Martin O'Malley said there would be devastating flooding from the swollen Chesapeake Bay.
"There will be people who die and are killed in this storm," he said.
At least half a million people had been ordered to evacuate, including 375,000 from low-lying parts of New York City, and by the afternoon authorities were warning that it could be too late for people who had not left already.
Millions of people stayed home from work. Sheila Gladden evacuated her home in Philadelphia's flood-prone Eastwick neighborhood, which took on 5? feet of water during Hurricane Floyd in 1999, and headed for a hotel.
"I'm not going through this again," she said.
Those who stayed behind had few ways to get out. New York's subways, which serve 5 million people a day, were shut down. The Holland Tunnel connecting New York to New Jersey was closed, as was a tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan, and the city planned to shut down the Brooklyn Bridge, the George Washington, the Verrazano-Narrows and several other spans because of high winds.
Stock and bond markets were closed Monday and Tuesday, the first shutdown since the days after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 and the first two-day closing of the stock market because of weather since a blizzard in 1888. The New York Stock Exchange is inside the mandatory evacuation zone in lower Manhattan, blocks from New York Harbor.
If the storm reaches the higher estimate of $20 billion in damage, that would put it ahead of Hurricane Irene, which raked the Northeast in August 2011 and caused $16 billion in damage. Hurricane Katrina, which killed 1,200 people, cost $108 billion.

It was hard to pass up a few moments chatting with the very pretty, 12-time Olympic medalist in swimming Natalie Coughlin. Though enjoying some time off, post-Olympics, she?s been keeping busy traveling and working on various projects and partnerships. As one of the few athletes to who has not had corrective vision surgery, Natalie has recently teamed up with LensCrafters, and is helping get the word out about vision care and living a healthy lifestyle. Read on to find out which is her favorite mascara to adorn her healthy eyes, plus some great fitness and diet tips.
What are your tips for keeping your eyes healthy?
Getting an eye exam each year is important, but there are also things you can do day-to-day to care for your vision. Eating a diet rich in Vitamin A, lutein and Omega-3s are all great for eye health. Kale, eggs and oily fish are great sources of these. I travel quite a bit and I prefer to wear my glasses rather than my contacts to protect against dry cabin air in the plane. Also, I always have my sunglasses with me to protect my eyes from UV rays.
In addition to their obvious benefits, do you look at eyewear as a stylish accessory that can compliment an outfit or mood?
Eyeglasses or sunglasses are essential to completing an outfit, I think. Whether it?s an oversized geek chic frame or a bold color, it?s amazing how much your look can be changed based on the glasses that you choose.
How would you describe your style?
I would say it?s a mix of California casual and a touch of glam. My favorite outfit: skinny jeans, boots, a relaxed t-shirt, a leather jacket, and of course a great pair of glasses or sunglasses.
When you are not swimming do you find makeup a great accessory too?
When I swim and compete I never wear makeup. I can?t be bothered. So when I know I?m going to be dry for a few hours, I love wearing makeup and I have fun with it.
Tell me, what are some of your everyday essential cosmetics?
I?d have to say, Boscia BB Cream, Tarte lip stain in ?Enchanted? and Givenchy Noir Couture 4-in-1 mascara.
Your skin is so healthy looking. What are your skincare secrets?
I dry brush my body at night, and I like to use a Clarisonic on my face. To help keep my skin clear, I use either Murad Acne cleanser or Boscia Purifying Cleansing gel. I use Pevonia?s Vitamin C serum, day and night. In the morning, I follow this with Boscia BB cream, at night it?s followed by Dermalogica?s Pure Night moisturizer.
I?m sure swimming can wreak havoc on hair. How do you keep your hair in such great shape?
I don?t heat style during the week. I always comb my conditioner through my hair with a wide tooth comb when I?m in the shower. After showering, I always use a leave-in-treatment. I really like Pantene?s moisture whip.
Your body is amazing. What are some of the most important fitness and training goals you try to achieve on a regular basis?
Thank you! When I?m traveling, I always bring my TRX Suspension Training System with me. It allows me to get in a full-body workout no matter where I am in the world. I also do Pilates and yoga daily for about 30 minutes. Whether I?m in training or not, it?s important for me to stay active every day. That can mean a swim, a run, a hike, gardening or simply a long walk with my dogs.
You mentioned you grow a lot of your own food. What does your diet mainly consist of?
I eat mostly a plant-based diet. I like to include lots of fruits and vegetables. I eat meat, but I make sure to support farmers that humanely and sustainably raise their animals. Growing my own vegetables forced me to learn about seasonality. Portion size is the only think that changes, whether I?m in heavy training or not.
Do you have any favorite indulgences?
I love a glass of wine with dinner. My guilty pleasure is a juicy bratwurst, with onions and relish at a football game (go Raiders!).
Is there a fragrance you are really into these days?
My two favorites are Jo Malone?s ?Lemongrass? and Kate Walsh?s fragrance, ?Boyfriend.?
You travel quite often. What are your travel must-haves?
I always have my Tempur-Pedic eye mask, Diptyque travel candle in ?Baise Noir?, Dr. Singha?s Mustard Bath, T3 Travel hair dryer, my Canon G1X camera and Jambox wireless speakers ? gotta have my tunes!

WASHINGTON?? Climate scientist Michael Oppenheimer stood along the Hudson River and watched his research come to life as Hurricane Sandy blew through New York.
Just eight months earlier, the Princeton University professor reported that what used to be once-in-a-century devastating floods in New York City would soon happen every three to 20 years. He blamed global warming for pushing up sea levels and changing hurricane patterns.
New York "is now highly vulnerable to extreme hurricane-surge flooding," he wrote.
For more than a dozen years, Oppenheimer and other climate scientists have been warning about the risk for big storms and serious flooding in New York. A 2000 federal report about global warming's effect on the United States warned specifically of that possibility.
Still, they say it's unfair to blame climate change for Sandy and the destruction it left behind. They cautioned that they cannot yet conclusively link a single storm to global warming, and any connection is not as clear and simple as environmental activists might contend.
"The ingredients of this storm seem a little bit cooked by climate change, but the overall storm is difficult to attribute to global warming," Canada's University of Victoria climate scientist Andrew Weaver said.
Some individual parts of Sandy and its wrath seem to be influenced by climate change, several climate scientists said.
First, there's sea level rise. Water levels around New York are a nearly a foot higher than they were 100 years ago, said Penn State University climate scientist Michael Mann.
Add to that the temperature of the Atlantic Ocean, which is about 2 degrees warmer on average than a century ago, said Katharine Hayhoe, a climate scientist at Texas Tech University. Warm water fuels hurricanes.
And Sandy zipped north along a warmer-than-normal Gulf Stream that travels from the Caribbean to Ireland, said Jeff Masters, meteorology director for the private service Weather Underground.
Meteorologists are also noticing more hurricanes late in the season and even after the season. A 2008 study said the Atlantic hurricane season seems to be starting earlier and lasting longer but found no explicit link to global warming. Normally there are 11 named Atlantic storms. The past two years have seen 19 and 18 named storms. This year, with one month to go, there are 19.
After years of disagreement, climate scientists and hurricane experts have concluded that as the climate warms, there will be fewer total hurricanes. But those storms that do develop will be stronger and wetter.
Sandy took an unprecedented sharp left turn into New Jersey. Usually storms keep heading north and turn east harmlessly out to sea. But a strong ridge of high pressure centered over Greenland blocked Sandy from going north or east, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Science news from NBCNews.com
Science editor Alan Boyle's blog: Paranormal investigator Joe Nickell has busted a lot of ghostly myths over the past 40 years ? but the spookiest part of his job comes when he actually catches a ghost red-handed.
Jennifer Francis of Rutgers University, an expert in how a warming Arctic affects extreme weather patterns, said recent warming in the Arctic may have played a role in enlarging or prolonging that high pressure area. But she cautioned it's not clear whether the warming really had that influence on Sandy.
While components of Sandy seem connected to global warming, "mostly it's natural, I'd say it's 80, 90 percent natural," said Gerald North, a climate professor at Texas A&M University. "These things do happen, like the drought. It's a natural thing."
On Tuesday, both New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. Andrew Cuomo said they couldn't help but notice that extreme events such as Sandy are causing them more and more trouble.
"What is clear is that the storms that we've experienced in the last year or so, around this country and around the world, are much more severe than before," Bloomberg said. "Whether that's global warming or what, I don't know. But we'll have to address those issues."
Cuomo called the changes "a new reality."
"Anyone who says that there's not a dramatic change in weather patterns I think is denying reality," Cuomo said. "I told the president the other day: 'We have a 100-year flood every two years now.'"
For his published research, Oppenheimer looked at New York City's record flood of 1821. Sandy flooded even higher. This week's damage was augmented by the past century's sea level rise, which was higher than the world average because of unusual coastal geography and ocean currents. Oppenheimer walked from his Manhattan home to the river Monday evening to watch the storm.
"We sort of knew it could happen, but you know that's different from actually standing there and watching it happen," Oppenheimer said from a cell phone. "You don't really imagine what this looks like until you see it."

Just as there are reasons to get into global markets, and benefits from global markets, there are also risks involved in locating companies in certain countries. Each country may have its potentials; it also has its woes that are associated with doing business with major companies. Some of the rogue countries may have all the natural minerals but the risks involved in doing business in those countries exceed the benefits. Some of the risks in international business are:
(1) Strategic Risk
(2) Operational Risk
(3) Political Risk
(4) Country Risk
(5) Technological Risk
(6) Environmental Risk
(7) Economic Risk
(8) Financial Risk
(9) Terrorism Risk
Strategic Risk: The ability of a firm to make a strategic decision in order to respond to the forces that are a source of risk. These forces also impact the competitiveness of a firm. Porter defines them as: threat of new entrants in the industry, threat of substitute goods and services, intensity of competition within the industry, bargaining power of suppliers, and bargaining power of consumers.
Operational Risk: This is caused by the assets and financial capital that aid in the day-to-day business operations. The breakdown of machineries, supply and demand of the resources and products, shortfall of the goods and services, lack of perfect logistic and inventory will lead to inefficiency of production. By controlling costs, unnecessary waste will be reduced, and the process improvement may enhance the lead-time, reduce variance and contribute to efficiency in globalization.
Political Risk: The political actions and instability may make it difficult for companies to operate efficiently in these countries due to negative publicity and impact created by individuals in the top government. A firm cannot effectively operate to its full capacity in order to maximize profit in such an unstable country's political turbulence. A new and hostile government may replace the friendly one, and hence expropriate foreign assets.
Country Risk: The culture or the instability of a country may create risks that may make it difficult for multinational companies to operate safely, effectively, and efficiently. Some of the country risks come from the governments' policies, economic conditions, security factors, and political conditions. Solving one of these problems without all of the problems (aggregate) together will not be enough in mitigating the country risk.
Technological Risk: Lack of security in electronic transactions, the cost of developing new technology, and the fact that these new technology may fail, and when all of these are coupled with the outdated existing technology, the result may create a dangerous effect in doing business in the international arena.

LONDON (AP) ? Two of the world's biggest publishing houses are to link up in a deal that will bring the writings of classics like George Orwell's '1984' and this year's literary phenomenon 'Fifty Shades of Grey' under one umbrella.
Confirmation that Pearson will merge its Penguin Books division with Random House, which is owned by German media company Bertelsmann, will create the world's largest publisher of consumer books, with around a quarter of the market.
As well as publishing books from authors such as John Grisham, Random House scored a major hit this year with E.L. James' "Fifty Shades." Penguin has a strong backlist, including Orwell, Jack Kerouac and John Le Carre.
The two companies said Monday that Bertelsmann would own a controlling 53 percent share of the joint venture, which will be known as Penguin Random House.
And Bertelsmann would keep full control of Verlagsgruppe Random House, its trade publishing business in Germany, and Pearson would retain the right to use the Penguin brand in education.
The combined company will control 26 percent of the global consumer publishing market, leaping ahead of the 17 percent share of French publisher Lagardere, according to research by Espirito Santo Bank.
The announcement may also lay to rest the ambition of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. of netting Penguin. Reports over the past couple of days have indicated that News Corp. has expressed an interest in buying Penguin for 1 billion pounds ($1.6 billion) in cash. News Corp. owns HarperCollins, another big publishing house.
Under the terms of the deal, Random House worldwide chief executive Markus Dohle will be CEO of the new group while Penguin's CEO John Makinson will be the chairman of its board of directors.
"Together, the two publishers will be able to share a large part of their costs, to invest more for their author and reader constituencies and to be more adventurous in trying new models in this exciting, fast-moving world of digital books and digital readers," said Marjorie Scardino, chief executive of Pearson.
Bertelsmann's Dohle said the link-up will "create a publishing home that gives employees, authors, agents, and booksellers access to unprecedented resources."
The closing of the deal is scheduled to take place in the second half of 2013 following regulatory approval.
"We believe the tie-up is a sensible one, although it is clearly a defensive response to the long-term pressures affecting the industry, including dramatic growth in digital retail channels, self-publishing and digital reading," said Jonathan Jackson, head of equities at Killik & Co.
Because of the digital challenge, analysts at Jefferies International said they would have preferred Pearson to sell off Penguin altogether.
"The gorilla of the book business is no publisher, it's Amazon and it will stay that way," they said in a research note.
Pearson PLC said the deal does not require approval by shareholders; Bertelsmann is privately owned.
Bertelsmann and Pearson agreed that they would not sell any part of their stakes in the joint venture for three years. After five years, either partner could trigger a stock market flotation of the venture.
Pearson shares were down nearly 1 percent at 1,211 pence in midday trading in London.
In 2011, Random House reported revenues of ?1.7 billion ($2.2 billion) and operating profit of ?185 million. Penguin had revenues of 1 billion pounds and an operating profit of 111 million pounds.
Pearson meanwhile reported that its operating profit in the first nine months of the year fell 5 percent although revenue increased by 5 percent. Revenue from Penguin was down 1 percent when stripping out the impact of fluctuating currency values.
The company attributed the profit drop to last year's sale of its half share of FTSE International, a joint venture with the London Stock Exchange.
The Bertelsmann deal is part of Pearson's strategy of focusing more on its education business. Penguin accounts for about 10 percent of the company's book sales.

ScienceDaily (Oct. 29, 2012) ? K-12 schools in the United States are often criticized for falling behind their counterparts in other countries, but a new Cornell University study suggests that this "negative spin" does not increase public support for spending more to improve the nation's schools.
Presidential hopefuls, local school board candidates, and even companies like Exxon Mobil stress the need to have the best education system in the world to be competitive in the global economy. President Obama's education issue webpage, for example, begins with the statement, "To prepare Americans for the jobs of the future and help restore middle-class security, we have to out-educate the world and that starts with the school system" (http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/education). And, in the first presidential debate, Mitt Romney unveiled a five point jobs plan for 70 million television viewers. Romney presented "Number three" as "Make sure our people have the skills they need to succeed and the best schools in the world. We're a far way from that now."
"But my research concludes that comments such as Romney's erode support for public schools and decrease interest in spending additional money to improve them," said Stephen Morgan, Cornell professor of sociology and lead author of the study "The Consequences of International Comparisons for Public Support of K-12 Education," published in the latest issue of the journal Educational Researcher.
With results from a randomized experiment on a nationally representative sample of adults (aged 18 to 93), the study concludes that statements such as these convince approximately seven percent of adults to lower their grades for public schools in their own communities from "A" or "B" to "C," "D," or "Fail." And, when asked whether we spend enough money on improving the nation's schools, a similar percentage of respondents shifts from the position that we spend "too little" toward "about the right amount" or "too much." Overall, "people think worse of their schools, but there is no evidence that they are then convinced to spend more money to fix them," said Morgan.
The percentage of the national sample that is shifted by international competitiveness concerns may be modest, "but seven percent could be enough to flip the outcome of a school levy vote or a local election," said Morgan.
Morgan says that international comparisons shouldn't necessarily be avoided altogether, especially by candidates or interest groups that favor cost-neutral reforms. And they are probably effective in generating interest in education reform in general. "I'd guess that they are partly responsible for convincing some of my own students to care about educational reform and to apply to programs like Teach For America," said Morgan.

I have been in the wedding industry for over ten years and through out them ten years I have heard brides say the same thing time and time again.
"My underwear's killing me"
Lady's I know you want to look like you have just stepped out of a Victoria secrets catalogue on your wedding night but remember you are going to be wearing that underwear all day. It may be put on in the morning and not taken off until after midnight, you hope( sorry to spoil the illusion but most bride and grooms are so shattered and dozy with alcohol that they fall asleep when their head hits the pillow)
Our thoughts as a bride is we want to look and feel stunning on our wedding day not only in our dress but also in our underwear and its obvious we want to get the most sexy gear we can slink our bodys into, basques with sexy boning, suspenders with satin bows with little diamantes hanging from them and silk thongs with complimentry lace and yes that sounds ravishingly gorgeous, by all means get those items and save it for the day after your wedding for you and your husband to enjoy ( your'll also have more energy then).
You dont want to spend the entire day greeting guests through gritted teeth or having your first dance and all you can think of is how am I going to discretely remove my thong from cutting me in half. I know we dont want to admit that us brides will need the bathroom but unfortunatly when nature calls( im afraid she dont hold for our weddin day) you really dont want to be in the bathroom peeling everything off because its all attached togeher.
Now this is not to say that on your wedding day put on your trusted granny knickers and your most comfortable bra, there is some beautiful lingerie out there that is designed for sexyness as well as comfort. Swap your basque for a two piece, your thong for some vaa vaa voom french knickers and your suspenders for some luxurious hold ups with lace detailing, and believe me your groom will still be left panting.
Just a quick note that I shall leave you with and which I say to all my brides on there wedding day, no matter what enjoy it. This is your one special day and aslong as your grooms there then its a perfect wedding day so once agian enjoy it

On Thursday, November 1, members of the Northfield community will have an opportunity to view two non-fiction films by local filmmaker Cecilia Cornejo at the Weitz Center for Creativity Cinema. The films will be preceeded by an introduction by noted filmmaker and scholar Daniel Eisenberg (School of the Art Institute of Chicago), and each will be followed by a question and answer session with the filmmaker. The program runs from 6 to 8 p.m.
Cecilia Cornejo was born in Chile. In her early youth, she saw her homeland descend into the brutal dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet, who overthrew the democratically-elected President Salvador Allende in the coup d??t?t of September 1973. That coup, and the tragic events of another September twenty-eight years later, form the historical background of her film I wonder what you will remember of September (2004).
The film is about...
In our conversation, Cornejo was uncomfortable with discussing what the film is ?about.? For Cornejo, filmmaking begins with ?a pebble in her shoe??a persistent yet amorphous discomfort, a set of ideas that she feels compelled to explore?and the film documents the process of formulating questions and, less often, finding answers to her questions. She wants her audiences to experience that process and see where it leads them. What interests Cornejo as a filmmaker is process?the often disjointed, often incomplete, ultimately illuminating process of working through ideas?rather than product.
?We live in a culture obsessed with product,? Cornejo says.
These ideas about work and productivity inform her most recent film, The song of the apprentice(2012), which she just finished editing in early October.
Cornejo?s education in film began after she arrived in the United States in 1994 as a student at the University of Iowa, where she earned a bachelor?s degree in Communications Studies. Most of the Latin American film that she knew from the 1960s and 1970s was ?very urgent, very political,? shaped by the turbulent political situations that prevailed throughout Latin America during those decades.
In the U.S., she was exposed for the first time to avant-garde American filmmakers like Maya Deren and Stan Brakhage, whose work struck her as ?playing.? The films lacked any overt political agenda, and played with notions of narrative, structure, time, and with the conventions and possibilities of the medium. But as she became more familiar with American culture, and some of the excesses of American capitalism, Cornejo realized the countercultural significance of avant-garde cinema?s sense of ?playfulness.?
In our productivity-driven culture, she says, ?playing is one of the highest forms of rebellion.?
Cornejo situates her own work between the urgent political cinema of her Latin American childhood and the playful avant-garde of her American film education. Her films often draw on her own journal entries, poetry, interviews, and news reports, bringing together both the personal and the political. The narration often shifts between English and Spanish, emphasizing the filmmaker?s position in between two cultures and two ways of looking at the world.
Cornejo received a Masters of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she taught and served as an academic advisor. In Chicago, she co-founded The Nineteenth Step, which she describes as ?a collective of artists, teachers and curators who used cinema as a tool to foster a deeper understanding of Latin American culture.? Her work has been screened in Europe and the Americas, and was included in Documentary Fortnight at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York. In Northfield, she continues her work as a filmmaker while expanding her creative life with dance and art classes.? She recently published a translation of a seminal essay by Bolivian filmmaker Jorge Sanjin?s in Jump Cut, and in the spring will be teaching a film course at St. Olaf College. Her current film project is a documentary developed in collaboration with the Northfield Skateboard Coalition.
You can find out more about Cecilia Cornejo on her website, and you can read an extended interview with her here.
